Releasing the single on their own label, Dakka Skanks Music, self-recorded and produced in-house, ‘Mr. Murder’ is a compelling story of anguish and torment, beautifully delivered by ever brilliant Clara Byrne. Her unique and moving vocal style hits straight at the soul and draws listeners in, in both her live performances and recordings. Anyone who has seen this band live knows how captivating their shows really are.

The song is a true story and honest description of life growing up in the tougher side of Britain. It follows the story of a young mixed race girls mind who was bought up by her white biological mother and her white adopted father. The song ‘Mr. Murder’ explores the themes of Ignorance, loneliness, race and lack of identity.

Opening the song is a dramatic guitar/vocal section, introducing the theme of the track. The band shows their range of styles by dropping into a motown-esque beat, Clara beautifully tells the story while the band call and respond to her, with rhythm staying solid throughout. The explosion into the pre-choruses brings the vocal power and leads the listener in suspense to the hard hitting steppas chorus The story follows through bringing dub breakdowns where the band show their clear love for the genre through eerie effects and haunting vocal lines. As the pace builds, the ending brings a hard ska beat packing a punch and bringing the track to a close.
